I just got my bloody wallet stolen by some fuckwit. On Thursday, I am slated to leave for Hong Kong. My alien registration card was in my goddamned wallet. Now, I have been told that it takes two days to process a new card, but this is no good as Seolnal starts Tuesday. My question, if I can prove I am going out of the country for good (I have my Hong Kong work visa in my passport, my open ended ticket to Hong Kong, my many many suitcases), is Immigration going to be a mother of a hardass to me? I'm planning to get to the airport early early early in case of any problems that arise, but I would like some assurance that I can get out of the country OK without handing over my card, if I can prove I'm not going to come back.
Please advise.

Feh. Confused

Tell them that you are coming back in a week or so, buy a re-entry permit for W30,000 at the airport, then...don't. You don't have to show them your alien card or airplane ticket when you buy a re-entry permit, just your passport. Or stay. You will be missed. Good luck.

Thanks for missing me PS. Very Happy

I have just been informed that with my ticket, my work permit, my many many suitcases and a receipt from the friendly neighborhood police station stating I declare my wallet pilfered by a fuckwit, I won't have any problems. We'll just have to see.

Slooooow down there, Katy. It may interest you to know that Swiss James has already alerted airport security, and our operatives will in place and prepared for your attempted breakout. And did you really thing that was a random hit, that pickpocket? Twisted Evil

So you see, my friend, resistance truly is futile. There has never been a successful escape from Stalag--- er, I mean from Sejong's Farm. Note the avatar. He tried, just like you.

Hong Kongkers, huh... Be sure & say hello to that old Gang of Four o' mine when you get there. Safe trip. Cool

(psst -- James... let this one through)

I'm the artist who drew the sketch.

It was me. I stole your wallet.
You just can't leave. Korea is your second home.
Why'd you want to go to Hong Kong in the first place?

Are you going to live and work in Hong Kong?

Just curious, I haven't followed all the threads to know.. but I know you liked it a lot there.

What kind of a gig did you get there?

TB...It's a kindy job.

But as I keep telling myself, it's kindy in Hong Kong.

We'll see how it goes.

VanIslander...I didn't know you'd travel all this way to thwart my Plans. (Capital P intended). Very Happy And to think, I had thought my cat had masterminded some kind of scam with some street cats she may have known from a previous life.

And by the way. Why do I want to go to Hong Kong? The same reason Truman Burbank wanted to go to Atlantic City: Because it's there. Very Happy

It wasn't personal. I did it on behalf of the Literary Book Club. You just gotta come to our meeting first!

Only if the meeting will now be held in the Depatures area, and you have switched over to The Stinky Cheese Man And Other Fairly Stupid Tales as your Book of Choice. I'll shout my review and the book's many many finer points over my shoulder as I bolt toward the gate. Wink

Katy, Hong Kong is cool. I was born there. Where in HK are you going?

I am surprised that they told you it takes 2 days for your ARC to be renewed. My wallet was stolen last August and I got my ARC in 10 minutes. I think you've been had!

You should come back and continue to post here...

Well this is what the KNTO said to me, they even called the Immigration office. Maybe things have changed. Who knows?

Apparently, the answer I was hoping for, the nice kind answer was just a brush off.

I will have to pay 100,000 won to leave Korea, never mind some other Korean also took 50,000 from me and other important documents. This really sucks.

I've been robbed twice, first by a Korean then by Korea.

I'll never set foot in this country again, Razz Wink
