Are these available in South Korea or am I going to be ordering them online while there?
Thanks.

I thought all Mini-DV tapes could be used for both PAL and NTSC.

It's your camera which is formatted. Not sure though.

I'll look into that. My camera is NTSC, I can't imagine PAL tapes working in it. I'll check with some electronic stores before coming. Still wondering if the tapes are available in SK though.

Mini DV video tapes are universal and can be bought and played in either player. I know this from experience as I have an NTSC camera from Japan and bought Mini DV tapes in the UK (PAL country) which worked fine. All I can think is that the PAL/NTSC action happens when you actually record something and not when the tape is actually made.

So, the Saint, does that mean they are available in SK?
Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, SK uses the NTSC standard. I have an American DV camera, and all tapes work in it, if you're worried about bringing your camera over and not having any tapes.

Don't worry about it. The tapes are here, and they're fairly cheap.

what is they? Mini DV tapes are available in any country that sells mini DV video recorders. PAL/NTSC for the purposes of purchasing blank tapes is a non-issue. Playing back the recorded video on your tv is a whole other issue as is burning anything to a DVD for use in a DVD player.

Yes, they are. You can even find them in convenience stores, although I wouldn't waste money on those... overpriced.

You can find lots of them at Lotte Mart, and even stationery stores sometimes.

You won't have any problems getting them.

Buy Sony or Panasonic. DO NOT buy TDK.

Korea makes SKC brand, I think.... seemed OK playing them. Never recorded on one, though.

Yep, that's the killer. If your player is NTSC you will be fine playing back through TVs in SK. If it is PAL, you will need to play it through either a dual-system TV or a video that can convert the signal to NTSC out before it hits your TV.

Or, of course, you can just sit everyone down and watch it off the screen on the cam Laughing

I got me a Samsung SV-5000W for that very purpose.

AFAIK, you can't buy this, ironically, in Korea where it's made.

Alternatively, you can play it back through your monitor via your cam if you have a good vid card or simply by transferring the whole thing to your hard drive.

Min DV tapes are roughly 3500 won online, and two or three times as much in stores. Go to www.enuri.com and do a search for "6mm". It will give you a price list. If you can't read Korean and don't have someone to help, you can go to any home electronics store. They'll have them in stock.
