|
|
I have two friends, an American and a guy from London, who are pretty good at Korean. One is somewhat close to fluent but wants more practice and the other guy is really good at grammar and writing but also wants to practice talking. They mentioned to me yesterday that they'd like to have a conversation class where they can choose a newspaper article, look at it ahead of time, and then go and read it together and talk about it with the Korean teacher for an hour or two. Maybe two articles, who knows.
They're both interested in it but one is a bit busy and I was thinking it would be better if I could find maybe another two or three people that would be interested. I was thinking a place like ε鷹 would be good, that coffee shop where you can rent rooms to study. I don't think there's one in though so I'll have to think about that...
The prospective teacher is a girl I know who is quite smart - her English and Japanese are fluent and she's a graduate student in teaching Korean. She does these study groups with her friends before in English and has been to New York before on a scholarship etc. etc.
We haven't decided on a price but it wouldn't be too much. No, I won't be making any money off of this, but she will. I hate 'lessons' where no money changes hands because it feels unprofessional and one side always feels bad / sorry for the other.
So there it is. Pm me or write here. I'm thinking this would be good for someone of Mashimaro's level.
Oh, and they would take place on Sunday. One guy has to work a Saturday shift for a month or two. (that's his face) |

PS I think I would be picking out the articles and sending them a week beforehand. Something small and interesting and without too many words that nobody ever uses. |

If you ever organize a low intermediate class I'd be interested. There's probably more people out there at that level too. |

Actualy maybe I should have said upper intermediate. Here are the requirements I'm thinking to be in the class:
-Knows most grammatical terms. Can say things like ǰؼ, ǰϱ , ǰ ״ϱ, ǰ ٵ, ǰ ǵ etc. though not necessarily with blinding speed.
-Should be able to say just about anything you want though not necesssarily with the exact words you might want to use. I.e. if you forgot the word for politician (ġ) but can still get around it by saying 'a person who works in government' (ο ϴ ) or 'somebody who got elected' (缱 ), 'a person like Bush, Nomyuhyeon and all their friends' (νó, 빫, 鰰 , ...) then that should be okay.
-Should be able to figure out most newspaper articles given time. If you can decipher a newspaper article over the week before the class and know what it's talking about it should be fine.
I suppose that's a better way to explain it than just 'advanced Korean class'. |

Nice- those requirements fit me exactly. I'd certainly be interested depending on the time and place... Sunday evenings are unfortunately out for me.
I can study grammar and vocab on my own any time I want, but I really want to work more on using stuff in context... Conversations and internet messages with friends only go so far. SO, I will keep an eye on this thread, I guess, cuz I'm definitely interested.
(My vocab sucks, but I can circumlocate meanings like a champ) |

Are Sunday afternoons okay? That's the time period I'm thinking of, maybe 2pm for two hours or so. If so then we shan't be needing any more people. |

2-ish is probably best, especially if it's gonna be out in - a slight trek for me, but tolerable if I can get some decent variation in my studying. As long as I can make it back to Ⱦ by 6, all is good. |

All right. I think 's the place to do it in but it's not in , it's in places like , з, and so on.
http://www.minto.co.kr/
The locations are at the bottom of the page so we'll have to pick one from there. Looks like they're in Beijing too...it's 4000won per person for three hours there and you can reserve a room beforehand.
Here's what we'll do: everybody who has expressed an interest in this tell me which location looks best and we'll decide from there.
Ÿ might even be good, that's on the line 2 and closer to than is. |

The one works best for me....
By Ÿ, do you mean the one? I can't find a Ÿ on that page anywhere... Anyways, from what's there, the Ÿ (?), , or ȫ locations are all the most decent. I'm in ŵ until late Feb anyways, so they're all pretty accessible. Just no ϰ, thanks. |

Yeah, that's the one. . One person lives right in but I think one a bit further south would be better for the teacher. From to Ÿ is only about 20 minutes I believe...
Are you living in one of those huge apartment buildings in ŵ then? That place is weird.. |

Around there, in an officetel.... And yeah, the place is weird- Shindorim's no good. Barely a restaurant, convenience store, gym, or watering hole to be seen. Just hundreds of people hidden in their apartments or something. Bah. Outta here in March.
Anyways, the one's fine. Closer to Ⱦ than the other two, and actually closer to New Dorim as well. Sounds good. |
