What have you seen lately? What are your thoughts- and how did the Koreans you were with take the film, If you went with any? Often interesting to note how Koreans love things that westerners are unimpressed by, and vice versa.
Today I saw "Constantine". I was expecting a historical drama for some reason. What we got was a psychic thriller with fairly average special effects led by the ageing matured Keanu Reeves as chief exorcist.
A plot that contained little genuine insight into the paranormal degenerated into farcical X-files vein, with Rachel Weisz closely resembling Scully.
On the plus, it maintained pace and fairly good action throughout. A bit like Highlander, the main characters are angels and demons in disguise, haunting the modern world.
I'd say it was a rehash of sixth sense, Aliens, X files and ends up looking more comical than anything else.
Ok for a lazy evening, but easilly forgettable within the hour:)
So, any more reviews out there? |

Constantine is based on a comic book. There's a lot more comic book movies coming out. Fantastic Four and Batman Begins are the next two to be released. Oh, and Frank Miller's Sin City is coming out as well. It's being directed by Frank Miller himself. Jessica Alba seems to be a staple in comic book movies, as she is Sue Richards in FF and Nancy Callahan in Sin City. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. |

| Don't expect much this time of year. January to April is the post-Oscar/pre-Summer season, meaning it's when the studios put out the movies that even THEY think are crap. But it's also when the good indies tend to take advantage of this and get released. I don't know if Korean cinema takes advantage of the 'Spring Slump.' |

I watched 'Million Dollar Baby' with my K-wife. I thought it was really good, though the endless Voice-Over really got on my nerves at times.
My wife liked the fight scenes, but not the movie because of the final act. It's hard to figure how one is going to take the plot-reversal in this film; but after thinking about it I come to realise that it was the only natural progression, once you realise the story belonged to the Clint Easwood character. |

Don't think it'll hit Korea for a few weeks, but I just saw "Hitch".
I was amazed that- despite it's lack of orginality or even the slight deviation from standard romantic-comedy formula- it didn't suck.
In fact, it would be a pretty good date-flick. |

| Closer was well-acted, visceral, and at times as cruel to its viewers as to its characters. If you prefer seeing people screw each other over to screwing each other, then this is the movie for you. |
