Anyone bought a hard drive in Seoul recently (Yongsan, perhaps)? What's a reasonable price to expect for the product and installation? Nothing fancy...

How big do you want? Usually works out to about 600~800 won per GB of storage....so 120GB may be around 80,000. Not a law, just a general rule. Look for a 7200RPM, not 10k or higher, the good names: Maxtor, Western Digital, Seagate, in that order.

At the top... "F-HDD"

A nice drive:

You read my mind Demo!!!

That's the one I'm going for. Maxtor 200G 7200. 106,000 won for 200 gigs of memory is just so cheap.

Is there much configuring to do if I put it alongside my current 80G drive?

The Seagate drives tend to be very quiet.

Nope. Just slap it in and format it.....

@ Derrek: Yes, Maxtor are noisier than Seagate, but hey, they outperform them as well. Wink

Yes, but which difference will the regular user be more apt to notice? Laughing

Demo is a "spec man." He sits and reads specs all day, and makes his judgements based on numbers.

If there's .01 nanosecond of a difference between drive A and drive B, then how much difference are you going to notice? Sure, you can say, "MAXTOR IS FASTER" and be correct. But in the real world, if you aren't going to notice the difference when it's so close, wouldn't you rather have the quieter drive?

Even your idea of "noisy" is of no significance. You are crying about fractions of decibels, and yet accuse me of hair-splitting with drive speeds. Rolling Eyes

Yep...make my judgements based on facts. You should look into it.

And indeed that is all I was saying; Maxtor is faster....a fact. I will point you again to the irony of your hair-splitting while finger-pointing at what you percieve as mine.

And finally, no, I wouldn't rather have the "quieter" drive. I try to choose things based on performance, not on how loud the faint ticking is that I can't hear anyways.

Nope, actually, my HD is a Maxtor. It's been fine, but again, we're all just splittin' hairs here.

Hey Demo... when the hell are we going to stop fighting and just drink a lot of beer together?

Derrek, I never once actually thought we were fighting. You are probably my best medicine; keeping me in check around here. Our banter actually is quite productive for the most part, giving other people different points of view on issues as well as helping each other understand things.

As for drinking beer...well....I don't, but if you are up for a coffee and in my neck of the woods (I don't get to Seoul very often), I'm all for it. Cool

Actually, I don't drink much either. I've probably had more beer in the 2 times I've bumped in to SeoulTrader than I've had in 5 months.

Do you ever get to Itaewon?
