What's my source of information about what's playing currently, and how do I know if the theater is showing it in English? Anything else I need to know about seeing movies here?

Thanks!

Hollywood movies are shown in English with Korean subtitles and like any movie theater, they'll have posters outside showing what movies are playing along with coming attractions.

When I went to try to buy tickets to one for the first time myself, the girl told me it was in Korean. I asked her where I could see it in English, and she didn't know.

What movie were you going to watch? I had that problem too with Animated movies like Shark. There were only a few movie theater's in town where they showed it undubbed. I always have my girlfriend do a Naver search before we go out.

Maybe someone knows a website in English that displays this kind of info?

Yup, it was animated - Polar Express.

Don't have a Korean boyfriend to check Naver, and it'll be some time before my Korean is good enough for that.

Any other suggestions out there?

Oh, kids movies are a different game What I'd probably do is just buy it on (black market) DVD. They tend to be subititled, not dubbed, and you can bring them in to entertain the students once in a blue moon.

If you want to watch Korean movies, there is a movie theatre called CineCore that plays them with English subtitles in the Jonggak area of Seoul.

CineCore is spotty in terms of when it shows Korean movies with subtitles. Last year they made a big splash with a couple Korean movies having english subtitles but then attendance seemed to be poor for a few lesser pictures. Koreans, like North Americans, generally don't like subtitles in their movies. They find them a huge bother.

As the poster above noted, cartoon, especially if directed at a younger audience, sometimes get voice over. Luckily The Incredibles was in English Smile

most cinemas offer a dubbed version and a subtitled version. most Koreans I know dont want to watch the dubbed version, thats just for the younger kids.

Korea Herald has a column every Friday in weekender that shows you all the movies that are being shown in cinemas around Seoul. It tells you whether it's a Korean or a foreign movie and in what language it is shown.
