| Is it really legal for Korean television to be showing DVD's on TV? I was watching "Singing in the Rain" a few weeks ago, and I guess whoever was in the studio left it on too long because the options screen came up. Another time I was just channel surfing one night, and I saw some English show on TV, and it had the little channel logo in the corner. The problem is that is was for something like channel 48 and it was on MBC. Are they breaking international copyright laws when they do this? Are there even international copyright laws? |

Korea and international copyright laws? Like oil and water. Coffee shops, beer bars and video game parlors alike often ape storefront signs and logos from well known Western entities, while on street level the government lets people sell whatever they want (knockoff t-shirts, video, computer games tapes, etc.) with the hope that it'll all blow over while the Chinese get all the negative attention.
It might have changed in the last year or so, but I'm guessing it hasn't. |

There's a coffee shop here in Kunsan that's called Bucks. You can guess what it's trying to rip off. It has the exact same mermaid logo with the exact same color scheme. It's actually a really good coffee place/bar with board games, record albums , and movies. The coffee's really good.
I have been tempted on several occasions to take pictures of the place and send them to Starbucks just to see what would happen.
Maybe I could be the copyright Erin Brokavitch. Without the slutty clothes.
More than likely, they won't do anything. They aren't Disney. |

| There's a coffee/beer place at Cheonho called "Starbucks" --- just big letters with the name. |

And there is a sex-bar in Itaewon, right near the gay street, called 'Starbutts"...hehehe
Also, there is a PC bang in Sinchon called CNN...it even uses the same font that the newscaster does!! I've often thought about sending CNN (the real one) a photo of their sign.... |

I remember when that coffee shop first opened. It was about 2 years ago, and a friend of mine thought it was the real thing. We were kind of annoyed to find it was a bar.... BTW, how is Kunsan?
Also your avatar is my new favourite on this entire board. |

I think I read about that Hakwon. They allegedly have their curriculum of current events provided by CNN. |

Uhm, why would you be tempted to get a cool mom-n-pop coffee joint into legal trouble? |
