Just perusing the jobs and noticed a lot were asking for gyopo's for around 2.5 but then one popped out that said 2.0 AND they want you to "perfectly" create the curriculum!?!

2.0 is what you pay a white monkey to come in and babysit the kids.

Your racist language aside,

Some people would jump at the chance to develop a curriculum. In most countries, ESL teachers get paid less than the $ 1,900 U.S./mo. for that position.

Or you could hold out for your local market value.

You are right. Some people would jump at the chance, they would also like to be compensated fairly for creating a 'perfect' curriculum.

Korea is not most countries, you should understand that better than most.

Korea can be a difficult place to live and the Korean psyche can often be quite frustrating to deal with.

I actually find that hard to believe. But some people say they do, so I'm inclined to accept what they say. I admit my situation may be unusual, having a good hagwon and all, living in a nice place, meeting nice people, being treated exceptionally well. But I live a whole heck of a way away from Seoul, in a rural area with its own distinct Korean accent (or so I've been told).

Yes, it can, though the attitude one takes to deal with it makes a difference as to how magnified one's frustrations become.

Moral indignation, ridicule and demands for social change needn't be on one's agenda.

I think 2.0M is a fair monthly payment for creating a "perfect" curriculum. I wonder what they pay for the teaching, though. Creating a curriculum is a lot of work.

Slightly perturbed by your choice of words but a quick peruse of your posts indicate you are probably an adoptee who feels hard done by the 'whites' in your adopted land. Maybe you got razzed at school or rednecks verbally abused you at the mall. I don't know nor care. However as a presumably educated adult I think it's about time you got over it don't you?

By difficult I mean:

Not being fluent in the language.
Not being fluent in the alphabet
Being a minority and treated like one
Not being listened to

My biggest complaints about Korea and Koreans come from our lack (mine and theirs) to be able to communicate clearly and the way they deal with problems.

Sometimes a perfectly created curriculum is given to the hagwon and they will just use that free work themselves, sometimes at the expense of the prospective applicant. This can mean that the hagwon has no idea or is just lazy, or really is honest and wants to see the methodology of the teacher.

I laughed when the OP referred to 'white monkeys'. I think it came from people here who have referred to themselves as monkeys hired to entertain the kids.

I doubt the poster meant it to be offensive.

Lighten up.

As to the topic: 2 mil is OK for a teacher in a well established program, but I think it is low if the teacher is expected to create the entire cirriculum. It's fair to expect teachers to make lesson plans that supplement a program. I think you should ask for at least 2.5 mil for the extra work.

actually, it was mostly chinese who built the railroads (in which i assume you meant the US). good attempt at a witty retort, but too bad it was inaccurate as well as childish. there's really no need to respond to racist posts in kind, since you only end up offending more people.

that aside, i also agree with fidel. cjonlee, perhaps you meant to use the term "white monkeys" in jest, but it's kind of like a white guy trying to talk like a black guy using words like nig***. though black people say it all the time, if a white guy says it, it becomes offensive. something to consider.

in contrast, blind willie's post was hilarious to me because he took the potentially racist comment in stride.

Really now, the proper term for someone who comes in and babysits the kids is "Hagwon Monkey". Being a hagwon monkey is typically a dead easy job that has allowed me to save far more money than I could have hoped for back home.

So like I said, gimmie a banana. I'm ready to sit on some babies.

Ook ook.
