I was cleaning up some files on my computer last night. This morning when I turned it on, I got this message:

NTLR is missing press crtl, alt, del to restart.

I have no idea how to fix this problem.

This solution will only apply if you have a missing/corrupt NTLDR file, which it sounds like you have.

1. Put in your bootable WinXP cd
2. go into the BIOS ("DEL" on boot; perhaps "F2"). Look for "boot device" or similar. Should be nearly the last screen Access by using the left and right keys.
3. Look for "boot from" or similar. Change this to "CD-ROM"
4. Reboot.
5. Press any key when it says so.
6. Select "R" when prompted with that option.
7. Log into Win by pressing "1" and "Enter".
8. Password time.
9. Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. For example, copy these files from the CD-ROM drive letter "d". This letter may be different on your machine, as may "C:"
copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy ntdetect.com c:\
10.When finished, reboot and go back into the BIOS to change the boot device back to your hard drive.
11. Reboot again and it's all good again.

If it's something else, like a bad IDE cable, or the hard disk isn't correctly setup in the BIOS, boot.ini file is not pointing to the right location for the Windows installation, corrupt MBR (master boot record) or bad/corrupt sectors on the hard drive, this solution won't work.

If it does work, then cool....and.....don't "clean some files" anymore. They make software for people like you! Wink

I took it to the guy that repair the pc's at school who is whiz with these sort of things....he's fixed it for free.

I have packed up on most of computer stuff and dont have the disks. But he has bascially done what was said above.
