Well, I'm generally not too fond of immigration, and have been a little ticked off at them before, but I must say that my most recent series of excursions there was okay. Not enjoyable, since trekking across the city to get government paperwork done will never be so, but it was pleasantly tolerable.

After my son was born I had to register him within 30 days at immigration. First I needed to get his passport, though. That was going to take me about two weeks past the registration date.

My first visit to immigration was just to touch base. I went down to Busan Immigration Office, and told the guy my situation. He said no problem, gave me the papers, and said bring them back with two pictures, money, and the passport when it arrives. He marked in his book that I had come in before the required date. This visit took ten minutes in total.

When I returned two weeks later, I saw the same guy, as he requested I ask for him. To do the application and pay took a grand total of ten minutes once again. The whole process up to this point was polite and helpful.

I picked up my son's alien card and stamped passport on Monday, and this took one minute.

I didn't even have all the required paperwork for the process. They wanted a Canadian birth certificate, which I can't get; my son will have just a Canadian citizenship certificate. It won't arrive for about a year. Immigration said no problem.

What an effortless and problem free experience.

same here when we had our son here in Korea it was very easy going with immigration. We too missed the date because processing his passport.

Even when entering Korea, and leaving Korea it is quite easy going.

Unless you're not clean shaven, well-dressed or white.

I think they are getting their *stuff* together immigration wise. I recently picked up my ARC and I should have picked it up ages and ages ago, you're supposed to carry your arc at all times. I didn't bother for ages and I'd lost my receipt, I was worried I must admit that there would be issues with this.

I apologised for being late, forgetting about it and losing my receipt and no problems. I just supllied them with me, my passport number, nationality and DOB and she scurried of and grabbed arc and passport in a few seconds. Great service and they seem to have spruced up the Mokdong office too. I even got a smile. Very Happy . I expected the Spanish inquisition and they were great!

They seem friendlier and much more efficient than ever before.

Korea might not be perfect but they're getting better at some stuff. There is hope!
