| I've read that accomodation comes with the job. Do you live within walking distance of work? Or will I have to make good use of the subway? |

Well I was offered accomodation by my new school but I turned it down as my girlfriend has an apartment about 12 minutes away by bus. So I travel to and from work everyday by bus but I don't mind it at all and besides they (the school) wouldn't be able to get a house for both of us teaching there and it's cool that they don't know where I live!!! |

If the transportation is really convenient ie: no transferring, close busstops or subway stations; sometimes that is better than being within a twenty minute walking distance. I'm thinking of spring (monsoon season), summer (when it so incredibly humid and you die for want of an air conditioner) or winter (when it is too cold), chongno, gangnam, mokdong, apgujeong... (where there are so many people you cant walk straight), split shifts (when you have to travel four times a day).
Of course, a bit of a stroll in autumn is nice.
Check out the school's accommodation and their definition of walking distance, landlady/lord, transportation before signing. Also getting your own place takes a lot of potential power away from your employer. They cannot threaten to kick you out at a moments notice (because they don't know where you are ). Its not that hard to do either. |

No, i'm about 80 minutes walk from my school.
i catch the bus everyday which isn't too hard - takes about 15 minutes and they come every 10/15 minutes so it isn't too much of a hassle. |

| Thanks to all. Ideally, I'd love the convenience of being able to control my time and not worry about a late bus and the likes, but public transit sounds really easy from your posts. I guess it doesn't matter either way. |

I live on the opposite side of town. I walk to work. It takes about 10 minutes.
One of the wonderful experiences of living in a smaller place.
I hear some people spend an hour a day (30 min. each way) commuting in larger cities! They even act like it's no big deal. Insane. |

| You usually dont have to worry about late busses here in Korea. They have an awesome public transit system. Fast and cheap. |
