Is this a common occurance? Reminds me of some cheesy show I saw about how all the people in Canada leave their doors unlocked but just across the border in Michigan everyone locked their doors.

Anyways, it's happened to me 3 times and luckily my door has been locked each time.

My only thoughts are 1. It's some Korean person I know and they assume I'm not home because my door is locked.

2. Criminal.

3. The garbage / maintenance man.

Lack of privacy issues in Korea

How many times have I had a ajoshi lean over in the washroom to check out my 'equipment' Embarassed Question too many times to count

My landlord knocks on the door with one hand and starts yanking away on the door with the other trying to get in.

People coming to your apartment and ringing the freaking doorbell several times in a row when the door doesnt open immediately.

I attribute it to the Korean bali bali mentality. If it doesnt happen immediately there is something wrong.

Happens here quite regularly...it drives me nuts!

I was here alone in December, bf was away on business.

Its about 9pm at night, I hear truck passing outside apt with loudspeaker...so freakin loud I thought they were inside my apt.

I think, perhaps its an emergency, never heard such loud announcements before...ah well.

Then frantic banging on my door, door handle being turned rapidly.

I was frightened being alone. Then I thought, maybe there's a real emergency and I should open the door, something I would not normally do at night and alone.

Then I hear the door banger saying my bf's name loudly, as he's still turning the knob...so I open, thinking he knows us.

I see it is a school supervisor, to my relief, but at the same time being GREATLY ANNOYED.

Turns out he wanted to invite us to a party.........ever heard of CALLING first??? Or B, waiting to see if someone answers before trying to bust in the door.

Or the other thing that happens is they will call us on cellphones and say "Open your door." Or, "I am downstairs, come down." But we are never expecting them to come over.....Last minute stuff here kills me...makes me never want to answer door or phone here.

It's not just Koreans, one Saturday afternoon I was having a beer on a summer day, bare chested, but fortunately with sweatpants on & my door opens. It was a foreigner. Turned out it was a Moldavan student & she was selling her art to support her studies.
Wasn't happy though, my hairy chest & beer gut are for my wife's eyes only.

I would side with the drunk, confused person who got the floor wrong theory. One offictell floor looks like any other. Alternatively, one might have the right floor, right apartment but wrong building.

Weirder are the people who ring the doorbell and then try to open the door. That's much more scary in a way. "Okay, no one is home..." I actually don't usually answer my door as no one comes over unannounced. It's usually a delivery guy who got the wrong building or someone trying to sell crap. Sometimes it's just some idiot slipping a kimbap restaurant flyer on your door and is under the entirely mistaken impression I want to get the flyer right this minute. So ring the doorbell.

I'll take a peep through my hole. Sometimes its a person from the gas company who is there to check for leaks. I mean I'll let them in.

Koreans can be pretty persistent, however, when they ring the doorbell. They ring and ring and ring. And then they start pounding on the door.

Sweet jesus.

Door??

At least they're just going in through your door. I've been sitting at my computer, and two times a man has rapelled and stood on my window.

What's up with that? Do they actually think if they knock loudly and persistently enough that I might just forego wiping my ass to placate them!

My newspaper guy likes to barge in without knocking when he comes to collect, & a handful of service people over the years. If its any consolation, most Koreans regard it as rude behavior too.

I had a guy come through my window, once.

At least I don't have those fricking loudspeakers in my living room so that the security guards in my apatuh can whine at me about garbage collection whenever they feel like it. I don't know why people don't disconnect those things.

I have heard our door handle move a couple of times...no knock...no doorbell...this I assume is a case of mistaken apartment. Much to my delight my husband always locks the door, its almost a habit as soon as we come in the apartment the door is locked...which is good....someone mentioned earlier that in some places in Canada people don't lock their doors?? Well in my house my screen door locks, my main door locks and I have a house alarm that is monitored...hmm...maybe I need a dog next...then everything should be covered...Razz
