|

When I minimize something, it doesn't appear in the taskbar, but is still running in the program manager. I have tried playing with the taskbar settings, but it still does the same.
Any ideas? |

Methinks you need to tell us a whole load more. Questions that spring to mind include:
what happens when you reboot?
what programs are affected- all or some?
what OS do you have?
how long has this been happening? |

As I say, they are still there in the task manager. Just not visible as minimized windows.
Does that help? |

no. What part of MORE DETAILS don't you understand?
Saint asked you 4 questions. You just repeated yourself without answering any of them.
Do you expect him to be some sort of *beep* ing magician or something?
Just answer ths one that he asked then:
What programs are doing this?
Some programs- for example Edonkey, Nero, and Zone Alarm- are set by default to just sitting in the system tray when you click the minimize icon.
To illustrate from another viewpoint, take MS-Word-\It DOESN't sit in the System tray regardless of whether it's full screen, minimized, or not running. If you you are experiencing this phenomenon with MS-Word, then you've probably got a really *beep* ed up o/s. |

Yes, that's much clearer.
Sounds like windows explorer is pretty messed up- time to throw the XP disk in and repair your o/s. |

And if I don't have the disk? |

You really should look into somehow getting a disk.
Restoring Taskbar to default settings

I don't remember when the problem was started to happen.
When I minimized any application, it doesn't go to the
taskbar, it disappeared. How can I solve this problem ?"[/url] |

Geez, that's pretty harsh. He answered all those questions in his first post replying to the saint. Check his quote box. (Hint, the answers are in bold.) |

Me thinks Bulsajo is having a bad day....
This may sound dumb, but have you tried changing the theme? |

Oh yeah that helps!
I too missed Toby's answers so I understand why Bulsajo reacted the way he did. Forums like this don't tend to help us read very carefully.
OS is your Operating System and you've already told us you're running XP.
Have you tried system restore? This will reset your system to before the events started happening. To do this go to
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
make sure "restore my comp to an earlier time" is selected and click Next. Follow the instructions to set your computer back to before the problem started. NOTE: this will uninstall anything you have installed from now back to when you restore to but it will NOT delete any files you have created or downloaded.
Smart viruses etc know about system restore and will find a way round it. If you find the problem still persists despite this, I'd recommend a good virus scanner run in Safe Mode and prior to that, back up to CD/DVD all the files you desperately want to keep. We can cross that bridge if we need to come to it. |

Yes, I missed Toby's answers too.
Sorry Toby, I owe you an apology.
I think the harshness of my post is mitigated by the fact that I found a solution to the problem and I made myself look like a jackass. |

glad to know it helped. Bear in mind what I said earlier though i.e. if your comp starts behaving similarly in a few days or weeks you have something that sys restore is unlikely to solve long-term. |

Are you on Windows 98?
I know that some web pages used to be able to set your IE page to disappear into a small dot next to the my computer icon, or somewhere else on your screen. Can't remember how I fixed that, but it is easy to do. |
