Okay, I bought a new sound card, the old one was an 'integrated sound card' which I gather is built into the motherboard. Any way, it seemed to be running just fine.....except: I can't get the microphone to work.
I have an HPa350n, and the plug ups are in the front for the mic and headphones (original card), and the new card's plugs are in the back of course. Neither works with the mic. Speakers and surround are fine.
Yes I did a diagnostic deal to check the mic, but I got nothing.
This sucks because I'm trying to get Cakewalk to work...

How much power does your mic input have? Are you trying to use a regular computer mic, or something higher quality that requires phantom power? Do you need something to boost the power? If you're trying to input quality audio, you'll need to boost it some, anyway... just guessing. I use a MAYA EX to input and boost my mic, which is an excellent Audio Technica mic. It inputs by USB and also gives me an optical output, which I use to feed net music into my stereo. |

Well, I was just using a headphone mic to test it. Even in sound recorder nothing comes up. Using Cakewalk Home Studio 2004, I hear alot of back ground noise. Was trying to hook up a guitar as a MIDI device? Probably won't work. What I want to be able to do is have my boy record himself some of his guitar work and be able to mix it. I'm probably going about it all wrong.
I guess I have some more fooling around with it. Do you think that since I put another plug in sound card on it, it interferes with the one on board? Do I have to disable the old one?
by the way, I bought a 2005 Harley XL1200R...nice. Seoul traffic freaks me out. Soon, I'll find the back way to the Seong nam area and K-16 area.
Thanks for the replyl |

Did the microphone work before you installed the new sound card? You could have some Windows settings that are unhelpful.
Disabling the integrated sound card seems like a good idea. Just do one thing at a time and note what you're doing. |

I was trying to get a headset working with Skype (telephone thing) the other day- earphones fine, microphone silent.
In the the sound properties menu (loudspeaker icon in the bottom righthand toolbar) it said the mic was turned on (check in advanced settings to see which source you're recording from)- but it turned out that the soundcard has it's own little properties gizmo and the "Microphone Mute" thing was checked by default. |
