I'm hoping somebody may have had a similar experience and that they could tell me what to expect.
I'm changing jobs and am going from one university to another university. I got the email a few weeks ago telling me that I got the job and that they needed me to bring in my letter of release. That's done. They said, however, that because the president of the university is changing that they are not yet able to give me the contract to sign and so the visa confirmation paper that I will need for Japan will be delayed.
The problem is that my expiration date is on Friday (Feb 25th). So I need to get an extension perhaps longer than 10 days, because the university isn't sure if the visa paper will be ready 'ten days' after the expiration date. What I want to know is this: Has anyone ever received an extension longer than ten days? Is ten days only an imaginary limit... maybe? I thought it may have been set in stone, but maybe I'm wrong. Of course, I've going to have the university people write up a letter explaining the situation and giving me the best guess date that I'll be able to leave, but I'd like to know first if anyone has gotten an extension longer than 10 days. Thanks. |

I got one 3 days ago for 3 weeks. Why? I don't know. I asked for only one week, and the nice gentleman gave me three. |

That's the kind of news I was hoping to hear. Could you tell me what you showed immigration and what explanation you gave them? |

I brought everything, old contract, new contract. I just told him I need an extension for at least 1 week, and he said, how is 3 weeks, I said great. I suggest getting there early before they have to deal with a lot of crap. |
