1. Don't know a lot about it- If it is a foreign phone you might as well leave it at home. It's not going to work.

2. You can pick a travel one up for around 15 000 to 20 000 won.

3. Be bim bab is good. 3000-5000 won.

4. BBQ place. 25 000 for the two with beer. Western places. Double that. Little tent place. 10 000. Max.

6. 10 000 won is where they start.

7. 2000 for a draught. 1600 to 2000 for a bottle at the corner store. 1300won at the supermarket.

8. 500 000 to 650 000 won is a fair price.

9. The ticket to Hong Kong is about the same price to Thailand.

10. Why bother? There's never anything in English playing anyhow. I think the last time I went it's 9 000 won. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. DVD rooms are more fun. 10 000 won and you get to lie down.

11. 5000 to 10 000 won.

12. 15 000 won for a CD.

13. From Ulsan it's 38 000 won each way. Bugger that. Get the plane. 75 000 won each way. It's only an hour and it's comfortable.

14. I take about 200 000 when I get out of the city. But usually because of my location here in Ulsan we hit some western restaurants and places which we don't have here so a lot of that goes on eating.

20 000-40 000 won per night.

50 000 for food over the weekend.

40 000 won for drinks and other stuff.

20 000 sundries.

Hope some of that helps.

Just backing Peemil up here really- they usually have english stuff at the cinemas when I go, but DVD rooms sure are a lot more fun- you can drink, smoke, turn the sound up, it's your own private viewing room.

That UK mobile definitely won't work, a 1.5 litre bottle of water is 1,000 won, but there are little water coolers all over the place when you're outside of your apartment, the longer you put off learning a bit of restuarant korean, the more you'll overspend on western food.

About water-I get a five gallon bottle delivered once every couple of weeks for 5,000W A small hand pump for it cost me 20,000 but it's saved me a lot of trips to the store. Chances are your school has a water cooler- ask them to set you up.

cd prices will fluctuate depending on what you're buying...
Korean crap goes for about 11,000 I think, decent imported music can get up around 25,000. but remember the internet and cd burners are your friends, use them wisely Wink

SIM card for your mobile difficult. The system here is incompatible with anything else. It is CDMA not SIM card.

But, when you arive at the airport you can rent or buy a CDMA/GSM phone and out your UK SIM card in that and it is then a UK roaming phone. The phones are crummy (I have one) but the system works except for text messages.

If you want a local phone there are many options - monthly contract, pay-as-u-go ... and they are all over the place.

Calling cards: I use Runtel which I can reload from my credit card too. Usually sold in units of 5 GBP or so. Works out around 5p per minute to UK landline, but 5 times that to UK mobiles.

Meals: from 2 GBP each to whatever u choose - 60 GBP each for the full French gourmet at Seasons (Hilton), plus wine.

Beer" local lager 1.25 GBP per half litre - more in fancy bars and hotels. Guinness from 3.50 GBP up.

For the rest - no idea.

BTW, if you like strong tea, bring it with you. Same for instant coffee as the local product is blended for an American taste.

Good idea.

Am I the only person in Korea with a Brita water filter? They're cheap and you don't have to have them delivered every month.

That's actuallly what I was using before, but the water still tasted a little funky and it's a pain in the butt to find filters where I am.

We have a water filter but I only use it to filter water out for the kettle. For cold drinking water, we have the same system as peppermint. It is delivered and install every time for 5,000 won! Great deal.

I've got a water cooler... The water costs about 5 000 a pop and you've got both hot and cold water on the cooler... Best thing I ever did.
