We live in a demon-haunted world in one sense. Fear, superstition, ignorance, the spectres of war and calamity we see on the TV news and the internet. However, by my reckoning, there's no spiritual entity (read demon) nor physical animal that can match the depravity of the human. What we depict in film and story is an expression of the horror that can only come from deep within the human experience. On the other hand, people close to me whom I know don't tell tales have told me they've felt the presence of evil when there was no reason for them to feel afraid at all. It was fleeting and completely unprompted by anything they were experiencing at the time. My thinking is that 'demons' in whatever form people may experience them are the rational fears and behaviours emerging from dark personal experience of self or others or the irrational fears of things unknown ~ things hidden. Furthermore, occultists are often as fundamentally deluded by their demonic dogma as the God-botherers are by their own scriptural doctrines. I speak as one who has been 'born again' in the spirit of Jesus Christ and as somewhat of a Christian apologist. As for film makers, they're working light and sound to make a buck and to create a thrill for their audience. The film looks interesting.
Don't panic.

When I was 19, during the invasion of Grenada, I was assigned to an auxiliary ship that carried ammunition and various types of missiles. The ship was an AE (ammunition escort). We had a good view of the whole thing when it went down, I had seen Apocalypse now a few years earlier and this reminded so much of that scene at the bridge because of the fireworks. They were incredible. I have tried to remember for years now if the invasion began in the early hours, but my memories are faint now. My friends and I dropped the acid a few hours earlier but I can still remember sitting there watching those flares and fireworks going and going for a long time and thinking how evil was all around me and how war was just wrong. Theres more to the story, but I certainly felt it. I know LSD amplifies things a bit, but evil was present, I just know itto this day I can remember that I was sitting there on the signal bridge and we looked at each other, felt that presence and we didnt have to say anythingwe just knew. We talked about it later, its not like we dropped acid everyday. We all agreed that we felt something. |
