I just got an email from the secretary from my old school from last year asking me for my "foreign number". So I don't hear from them in two months and then suddenly I get an email from them asking me for my foreign number so what do I do? It seems a bit strange to me so I'm not sure what to do about it.

Any suggestions??

Thanks

They should be able to call up immigration and get it from there, but who knows really.

Did you ask them why?

Remind them that they should have this on file. If they don't kindly insist that they must provide you with a reason why, as you are concerned about identity theft and other reasons.

When I get a new E-2 visa then does the number change or do they just update it? I went to Japan last month to get it but I can't figure out why my old school would want my number?

Maybe it's for tax purposes? Do they have to prove to the government that I'm finished there and that they have a new teacher? That could easily be checked with immigration, couldn't it?

Maybe after what happened on the SBS show last weekend they want to check if I'm legal or not? Maybe they are jealous that I left my contract early and want to get revenge!!! Confused

Hmm I'll never be able to figure out Koreans!!!

No you wont ever be able to 'figure out' Koreans. They are very strange indeed. They should have your alien number anyway but they probably lost it through incompetence and stupidity as hagwon wonjongnoms and their admin staff tend to do.

Why they want it now, I have no idea! Revenge is a possible motive, or they just got caught dodging taxes?

FYI. 99% of Hogwans -at least- dodge taxes.

New E2 == new ARC == new ARN.

When your current E2 expires, you have to hand the ARC in to Immigration on the way out. Come back in from your visa run for a new stamp, and re-apply for another ARC. The number on the new ARC will be different.

I'm sure. I've had 3 ARCs and 3 ARNs.

I've had 4 ARCs, and the same number on each. If it wasn't the same, then immigration would be even more disorganized than it already is. Wink

Between you and L, I don't know what's what anymore. Why the hell would you have the same number, but mine are all different?

Maybe that's a blessing in disguise? If the NTS is looking for back taxes on an old ARN (previous job, owner took taxes out of my pay but didn't actually give them to the NTS), will they know enough to check for newer ARNs that I may have been issued? So far, all correspondence has included the old ARN (and the only reason I received them is that I live in the same place then as I do now).

That's a way to look at it, but I bet you'll have a hell of a time trying to collect your pension contributions..

If the old owner didn't pay my taxes, do you really think he paid my pension contribs? (The answer to that, of course, is no).
