I made sure I bought a shortwave along when I came here so I can keep up with the world. It was a dumb idea, the internet makes you connected and my days so far out in the sticks are very few.
So I have this Grundig Yachtboy taking up valuable closet space. I play with it once in awhile. It has several bands and one time I clicked it to AM and tested it against my Emart Phillips boombox and the Grundig faired very poorly.
I use the shortwave but its a real pain. You can find plenty of foreign language stuff but that gets dull. I find highly produced professional sounding religious broadcasts from The US and I did find the BBC.
Shortwave requires that you use different frequencies at different times of the day. Thats a pain.
In short, I guess its good for disasters but the electronic pulse of a nuclear blast would knock the circuts out. I learned that in an action movie,
Do you use shortwave and why? |
