Hae Mul Gogi means Sea Meat while Hae Mul Tang means fish soup or seafood soup.

I guess it just depends on what you are trying to get across to person you are communicating with.

If you go to Yahoo.co.kr and click the link for their reference stuff, you can find a very easy and useful Kor-Eng/Eng-Kor dictionary. Type in "seafood" and you're good as gold.

I'm guessing the OP is a vegetarian who keeps getting clams in her soup- if so you need to specify that you want no meat, no seafood and no fish

So what's the difference between ع and ػ깰ǰ? I'm sure Koreans have told me ع was seafood, but if there's a difference I'd like to know about it.

If you're asking because you have a real problem with eating meat, or because you or a companion is allergic, consider this.

Repeatedly I've asked if dishes had seafood, (useing the word ع) and been told no, only to find out it did when it came. This happened last week while ordering a shared stew with a friend who was highly allergic.
Not only did this thing have clams, it was chock freaking full of them. Like they dredged a whole clam bank and then added the rest of the soup.

I wound up eating his and mine, and paying for an extra dish. And this is not uncommon, nor is it an issue of mispronunciation. Actually I have no idea why it is really.

So go ahead and ask thouroughly.

As mentioned above, use ع and .

Say it again useing different words. After all, you now know ػ깰 ǰ, and while its wrong, there is no mistaking the word . (live fish)
Explain why you can't eat it first, so that there is no question about whether you can compromise on this, and to provide context and cut down on misunderstandings.

˼ϴµ ع ˷ ־
ع ݵ ߵſ
"I'm sorry, but I am allergic to seafood, if I eat even a little, I get very sick and have to go to the hospital."

If anyone reading this sees any mistakes, please correct it.

Actually, that's used quite a bit by Koreans nowadays, so point to Corporal.
