Seven in 10 Businesses 'Will Raise Pay'
With a popular perception that the economy is staggering to its feet, an Internet job portal has detected signs that up to seven out of 10 Korean companies plan to give their staff pay rises of 8.5 percent on average this year. In a survey of 161 listed or registered companies conducted by Incruit, 135 companies said they planned to adjust salaries for their staff - 66.7 percent of them upwards.

Among companies with plans for pay increases, 51.1 percent said they would give a 5-10 percent rise. Businesses who plan a 10-15 percent rise accounted for 30 percent and those planning to offer a hike of more than 15 percent made up 13.3 percent. A mere 5.6 percent said the increase will be less than 5 percent.
