My advisor asked me to begin work one hour earlier on Mondays, because effective now, the schools will not have classes one Saturday per month. Next year, he says they will have no classes on Saturdays.

Actually, our Principal asked the Assistant Principal, who asked last year's advisor to ask our new advisor to ask me.

The school's answer to the gov't trying to make life easier for people -- must make them work another hour during the week.... duh.

Anyone else heard of this one?

I, in a not-so-friendly way, told the advisor to tell last year's advisor to ask me directly. When he called, I said, "No way -- if you'd like me to help you find a new teacher, OK. Or just go ahead and fire me. Please tell this to the Assitant Principal, and she can tell the Principal I'll be happy to help them find a new teacher and I'll move on."

I don't work on Saturdays, and feel I have nothing to make up. We also had a very specific discussion about my working hours two weeks ago. I was promised the hours would stay the same (save adding 3 hours), but had to take their word on it.

When I told them to go ahead and fire me, they caved. I feel I've been pushed far enough. And they also are down one teacher, since one of the other foreigners couldn't agree to the crappy contract this year. I made it clear that I don't want to be "paying for their mistake" of not hiring her back.

I still might get asked again next week, and the principal may fire me, but I don't care. I'll have a new job within two days. That or I'll just decide to go home.

typical korean lies

The government is moving to a five day workweek but that should have no bearing on your contract.

My school is solving the Saturday problem by using the last period on Thursdays. Instead of a regularly scheduled class, it's a rotating block of the classes missed on the Saturday off. No extra hours for me; it just means I never have a class last period class on Thursday. Not sure how this solution is going to prepare them for no Saturdays at all next year though.
