Guys,
Disclaimer: I am a horse's patootie when it comes to this schtuff....
So my tech questions are a bit (ok, a lot) more than the average question, but please help me. What's going on is that I've been asked to manage my school's computer lab (15-20 computers)..and none of know much about this topic...and yes, we'll hire a competent technician to do all this, but need some advice.
All of our computers are currently off of a mainframe (though, we have one), so there is no uniformity.
So, first question is this: I've been told (or find someone capable) to connect all the computers and mainframe to Citrix Neighborhood...is this program/service/whatever any good? Any others better?
Second, do MSN/Yahoo (and the like) bad for computers? I mean, does this open up multi-fold possibilities for virus attacks? If it only does based on the fact that students would be able to download files sent via these services...wouldn't the set up (future set up) ban this possibilities? Currently, I've most of the computers set up so that nothing can be intalled without the admin's approval.
Preez help. Thank yis thank yis

I'm not familiar with Citrix, so I can't help you there.
On the second question, are you talking about Yahoo and MSN messenger or what?
Really important thing to consider: are you setting up these client computers so they can access the internet or is this just an internal Local Area Network that can't see past the mainframe? |
