In the past two months, over 30 new IM viruses and worms have been reported by the IMlogic Threat Center, a group consisting of vendors like Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC - news), Sybari, McAfee and IMlogic, as well as IM providers AOL (NYSE: AOL - news), Microsoft and Yahoo (Nasdaq: YHOO - news).

The reason for the surge in activity is that virus writers are now shifting the focus of their attack to IM systems, noted IMlogic chief technology officer Jon Sakoda. He told CIO Today that many virus writers see IM as an unprotected channel that gives them access into companies and homes.

I just found out that on Yahoo messenger there's a feature that archives all your conversations on whatever PC you're using.

One quick freeware download and anyone who can access your PC can read the entire conversation as easily as a Word document.

Yah, i believe that's been the case pretty much since DAY 1 of Yahoo. Key aspect i guess is simply that we're aware every keystroke has since the net's inception been in fact recorded and data-based.

Main reason i refuse to have an online connection running from out of my house these days.

Spooks begone.

One can always "unplug it". Or, look into some minor PC security. I'm sure that there is a way to turn off the "logging" in Yahoo.

I think that it's important when one installs some new software that uses the internet: explore the options. Looking carefully at all of the tabs and features often leads to a more secure setup.
