I've worked in Gyeonggi Do 1 year already.

Today apparently I have to supply a

Medical certificate
CV
A personal essay
Copy of passport
Copy of my visa
copy of my arc card
Degree (don't have an orignal so I'm hoping a copy will be ok)
transcripts.

I'm not in GEPIK so I don't understand why after a year I need to supply all this crap and have had no notice that I need it. grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Apparently the Gyeonggi do government has decided that since they are paying for the English teachers then everybody should have to follow their pet project(GEPIK) guidelines.

I also think this crackdown on documentation is yet another repurcussion of spectrumgate and the recent SBS racist report.

But I concur...Grrrrrr

I remember I had to go home for a week because of a grandparent's death. Gyeonggi-do education required me to produce a death certificate in order to make my absence "excusable."

What, no police check?

The rest sounds like the application for GEPIK (which requires a police check).

People have complained that there isn't any standardization in EPIK/GEPIK. Looks like Gyeonggi is trying to standardize procedures for everyone they pay for, no matter how they were hired. Sucks for people who started with a better contract.

I'm staying on my regular contract which means more money, more hours and more vacation than I would get from GEPIK and my salary doesn't come out of gyeonggi do funds (I'm paid by the city government).

I had to fax my ARC to the district office on Friday. I was told that they are checking the visa status of all the teachers they hired. Clearly a consequence of the recent controversy. Oh well, Im legal so they can check whatever they want.

you would think that given that we're working in public schools that immigration and the department of education would be able to do some data matching. Immigration gives them a list of teachers and schools then the schools give them a list of teachers. I don't understand the onus on me to prove I'm legit to gyeonggi do when I already did for both my school and immigration Rolling Eyes twice Shocked

The essay thing was just plain stupid, and I find almost insulting to be asked for that after working my butt off here for a year.

Also last year gyeonggi do asked for my work and academic history. They also asked about my family which is quite frankly none of their damn business.

Sounds to me like Gyeonggi do is targeting non GEPIKs by making schools who employ foreign teachers outside of their programme have all this extra paperwork in order to make GEPIK more attractive.

Fact is my school gets a lot more value for money out of employing me on my contract then they would a GEPIK person on a GEPIK contract so at the moment my school has very little reason to 'go gepik'. The irony is that they seem to have trouble keeping thier own house in order judging from the complaints I've read here on daves.

They asked us to write an essay last year, only it wasn't for "approval" to work or anything. They ended up printing it on the wall on display with some photos of us teachers next to the door. It was merely a "show off" item for parents and people who came to the school.

If Kyonngi needs anything like that, my guess it's just for various bragging reasons.

I haven't been asked for any extra paperwork ... yet.

But Gyeonggido is forcing my school to change my pay period. Originally, my school was paying me on the 10th of every month. Now Gyeonggido has decreed that all waegukin teachers be paid on the end of the month and ordered my school to fall into line. Why I don't know. No matter to me though; as long as my pay is ontime and in full, I am happy.

haven't had that yet. I get paid on the 17th and I'm imagining if this happens I'm basically going to 'lose' a weeks wages!

That's why I insisted upon a addendum to my contract, signed by me and someone from admin.

I've learned my hagwon lessons.
