How impressed was that guy to help me so courteously?
A lot I guess. Because I had uttered the bit of necessary Korean.

My white face with "hangkuk mal" coming out... did not seem to strike him as strange, but surely isn't an everyday thing for him.

It is good for a few shop owners in the neighborhood. They are cool when they know you and understand you and your basic Korean.

Now wait until you are at a bar at Hongdae, and some squatty-little K-University guys call your girl a Yankee $*#&, thinking you don't know what they're saying.

Somehow, staring them straight in the eye with a very stern look and asking them if they want to die in Korean seems to shut them up really fast.

Then again, I'm pretty big to most Koreans.
