|
|
My friends tourist visa is expiring soon, he is going to do a visa run to japan. Has anybody had any hassle getting a new tourist visa if they've overstayed their old one ?
The length of time of the overstay would only be a few hours ...
Can you get an extension on your tourist visa ?? Is this possible ?
He is only coming back to Korea for a week, and then he's off to another country.
Thanks |

How could the overstay be only a few hours? Do you mean he is leaving on the expiration date or the day after? He needs to go to immigration to get an extension. If not, he could be fined or imprisoned. |

I've never heard of anyone getting an extension on a tourist visa. Overstaying even a little might likely cause some kind of hassle as well as possible problems on trying to reenter. Why not just leave a day sooner? |

i tried to get an extension on a tourist visa once and immigration wouldn't give it to me, but i came back again with my soon to be boss who would be sponsoring me for my E-2 and they gave me a 10 day extension. so, i think you're friend is out of luck for the extension unless he can produce a certified wonjongnim - and even then it might be a bit sketchy. |

You want to avoid any problems with immigration if help it. They can be very unreasonable.
Why will it be the difference of a few hours? Can he check in earlier so that he gets through immigration before the midnight deadline? Maybe not. He should go to immigration with his plane ticket and perhaps they'll cut him some slack. |

You can't get a tourist visa extended. (It is supposed to be available, but I think you have to be in the hospital, and how are you going to get to Immigration, anyway?)
If you have a multiple-entry tourist visa, all you have to do is leave and come back, on the next boat/plane, even. If you don't, you can probably get 30 days or whatever on return. |
