| I got a Korean DVD player and I want to watch Korean movies. Some DVD's English subtitles work, others don't - they're in Korean instead. I watch a Korean comedy and I want to cry because I can't understand it. I lend the same DVDs to others and they can get the English subtitles on their DVD players. Should I take it back to the shop and try and change the region? Please help me. |

try a google search for your DVD make & model, + region-free
it may pull up a code/directions you can just punch into the remote to enable region-free playback. Samsung & LG this is very common!

that isn't the problem. If it were the region factor, he wouldn't get much of a picture, instead it would show nothing at all or a really messed up picture.
Like derrek said, it probably has something to do with the settings. |

You might cry still when you can understand it.
If you're unable to see English subtitles, that's messed up. Maybe try the TV remote control. Sounds weird, but last Friday Wifey was watching Spider-Man 2, and the DVD's English close-captioning subtitles were appearing over the Korean subtitles. I was able to switch off the close-captioning subtitles with the TV remote. I guess it depends what kind of TV you have, but it's worth a shot. Or just chuck the player out the window and get a new one (not recommended).

| Look on the backside of the DVD case for the language info. Some Korean DVDs don't have English subtitles. |

i found this same phenomenon, it was really odd. i bought Old Boy from one of those street stalls. I got them to test it on there's and it had English subtitles. I get it home and press the button for English subtitles but they didnt come on although they do on my other non korean films.
Ive heard some korean films are really cool. My DVD player here is really cheap but I have one in England which is better. I was thinking of testing it out on a friends then buying a few more to take back. There must be some way to sort it |
