|
|
Hello all,
I've been here for 10 of the worst months of my life, but last month the hagwon was sold and everything is now looking pretty damn bright. So bright in fact, that I'm in the process of discussions of extending my contract for 3 months. The new owners know squat, and what I was wondering was if a Visa run was necessary? Is there away of 'extending' a visa???
Also, assuming there is an extension clause, what are the costs involved?
Thanks |

Extending a visa is easy. Take your passport, AR Card and your boss to immigration. Fill out the form and pay 30,000 won and your done no visa run. It will take a couple of days for them to process. As for having a new owner it doesn't matter. Same thing happened to me in September, mine also no squat, i have to tell him everything. I was on vacation and in the process of getting a new visa anyways, but my co-workers contracts were just moved to the new owner no problem. Actually everything at immigration is still under my previous director so immigration really doesn't care when they change owners. |

Immigration do care if the ownership or the directorship of the hogwan change. You need to sign a new contract with the new owners and then it has to be submitted to immigration, with all the new owners paperwork. This is because your new owners must assume responsibility for your sponsorship. Your previous contract was voided when the old owners sold the school and under the current legislation, your are in effect working illegally. Be safe, don't be sorry for not checking it out. |

Sadsac is 100% correct on this one. Your visa is sponsered by your original employer. If the business changes hands your contract is null and void and you are working illegally. Insist on a new contract and an immigration run. |
