Hey,

I was thinking about buying Battlefield 2 now that they sell it with the Special Forces expansion. I was wondering if anyone has had any good or bad experiences playing online in Korea. For example, are there a good number of servers with low ping (low lag)? I've been playing battlefield 1942 for years and have had mixed success finding servers in Asia.

Thanks for any input.

There are a few servers, but they get ridiculously busy on the weekend when all of Korea are busy playing computer games. I'd recommend considering the new Battlefield - Battlefield 2142 - as that's likely to be the future of the game. I prefer Battlefield 2 at the moment, since I'm more familiar with it I guess, but the new game is worth a gadger. You can get Battlefield 2 + special forces or Battlefield 2142 for 30,000 won at Yongsan electrical market.

Wow! I can' t even find BF2+Special forces on the net for under 39000 (most are selling at 42000) (36000 for 2142)

I wish I could get out to Seoul (Busan here).

I've read in some reviews that 2142 is to BF2 as BF Vietnam was to BF1942. That is....kind of an interesting addon, but no match for the original. I've tried the demo and it seems fun but not as involved.

Yeah, Yongsan is great for prices. That's a good analogy...personally, I prefer BF2, but I'm going to give 2142 a proper go first. The tech is better but, like you said, the fun is usually less. I enjoyed the realism of BF2, and the familiarity of land, air and sea battles. There's very little water, for example, in 2142. When you get one of the games, let me know - it'd be good to have a game with a fellow teacher, instead of only random Koreans!

It's good, if you like on-line battle games, but it all depends on what you like. Yongsan is the best place to buy games. Some games are in English, some aren't - point to the box, and say "English?". Otherwise, get games from E-bay.

A co-worker and I play fairly often, we hop on Ventrilo and mow down targets in the choppers.

There are only two servers with pings under 100 (for BF2), one is the EA Korea server and it is always full. Its also not worth playing on because over 50% of the players are using hacks. BF2 uses punkbuster but its useless against these hacks. The other is a Taiwan server which you can only connect to occasionally because it seems they block Korean IPs.

There are a handful of other servers with ~150 pings which leaves the game still playable but you'll die occasionally from missiles and crap you didn't see coming on your end.

BF 2142 is a piece of crap. Its practically just a re-skinned BF2. The gameplay is not fun or engaging nor are the weapons or new vehicles. Its also choppy and laggy and I've got a high-end system.

Thanks for the info. I play BF1942 all the time with pings around 200-250. It seem OK with the odd lag attack. Would it be more noticeable in BF2?

Anything under 200ms is playable. < 150 is ideal. Alot of servers auto-kick you if your ping is over 200 anyway.

So in your opinion...do you think its worth it to shell out 42000 for the BF2+SO? If there are only two playable servers...one hacked and the other pretty variable at best, it seems I should vito the idea.

There are servers, you've just got to be a little patient, press refresh a few times, and jump in when a space appears. Within ten minutes, I can usually get a place on a Korean BF2 or BF2142 server.

BF2 Rocks, I only played the demo of 2142, and I am not inpressed at all with 2142. It feels more like Halo with BF2.

TECHNO MART is also very good for games. They always have what I want and parking is easier.
