Just wondering what a realistic starting salary is in Daegu. Not what one should hold out for or wishful thinking but what you guys are really signing for.
No experience at all what so ever=
A little experience, eg. a related major like English or Elem Ed= |

I know new teachers who just signed for 2.1 million.
However, it depends on your education, nationality, age, and race. |

1.9 is the current avg. rate in Daegu for non experienced teachers.
That rate is being maintained by a Daegu foreign language association of about 150 english schools that are trying to regulate things. There are still a lot that operate outside of the associations and pay out more, but the avg. still is around 1.9. I see more 1.8's and 1.9's in Daegu, than I do 2.0's and 2.1's. Mind you, I just negotiated a 2.1 contract for a guy in Seongseo, but he has 2 years experience here. (maybe we know the same guy, Kangnam? He was up in Seoul for 2 years.)
I know many experienced (4+ yrs) people here that have been holding out for 2.1-2.2 gigs, and they've been waiting for 3-4 months. They often end up taking a 1.9 gig on a light schedule and do privates to make up the slack. Or pack up and head down to Busan for 2.1-2.2 gigs.
Having an education-related degree helps, but you're still going to fetch a better salary with that degree, in Seoul or Busan. |

Two months ago when I was looking for a new job, I was offered a position in Daegu for 2.2 monthly and 25.000 per overtime hour. I dont have an Ed degree, or much experience.
But maybe I was just lucky.

Each schools may calculate it differently and everything mentioned has been right so far. There is one thing that was missing, timing. Timing could be very important too. Depending on when the school usually hires their teachers, some school will be so pressed for time that they could offer more then they normally would if they don't have a teacher to start soon. |

I'm coming down to Korea for the first time this year... and I hooked up a 2.2. But then I think I'm a lucky SOB to... I certainly had a few key people who were putting a good word in for me as well.
Plus I got a few skills that can pay the bills... so it works out. |
