I don't have the links...but last year korea had wide spread cases of food poisoning! And it is common...many people are getting food poisoning in korea. So....so much for preventing food poisoning!!
The cabbage is OK...but koreans screw it up with the foul smelling extras they put in it! It reeks most of the time! You ever go to a korean house...when the fridge is opened...what a terrible stinking smell!
But to be fair..many koreans tell me that they agree...it does smell bad! |

From a BBC report on kimchi and avian flu:
"The researchers said the results were far from scientifically proven and if kimchi did have the effects they observed, it was unclear why."
further in the report: "The idea that it could help poultry to fight off bird flu sounds like a dubious folk remedy. But the theory is being floated by some of Korea's most eminent scientists."
and "Kimchi was reported to have helped to prevent Sars. The claim was never scientifically proven, but according to some Koreans, people in other countries followed their example and started eating kimchi."
finally "So one of Korea's national specialities may soon find a much bigger market. Whether it really is an effective remedy, only time and more research will tell."
Doesn't sound all that official if the researchers themselves say it hasn't been proven yet.

see, what they need to do is make the claim with better tasting food:
Hoduk has been known to stop cancer in it's tracks.
goon mandu was traditionally smeared on old people to give them youthful skin.
samgyupsal, when taken internally rids the body of leprosy.
these are the headlines i want to see.
