Does anyone have a clue as to why there is no ondol under the bathroom floors??? It seems as if it would make perfect sense (yeah...I know...this is Korea!!! ) to have it there, as the water pipes have to go in there anyway...but I get tired of putting my warm feet on a cold bathroom floor! |

i wondered that during my first winter here!
my guess is that running a hot shower in the bathroom heats up the floor. then, when the floor is wet, one uses the bathroom slippers anyway.
sound good??
aw, maybe Jongnoguru knows.... |

I wouldn't be surprised if a primary reason is that because in old traditional housing, where ondol started, the bathrooms were not part of the house, being outhouses instead. |

Ondol pipes are installed in a screed laid on the structural floor. The floor level in the bathroom is normally lower than elsewhere and hence there is no room for the pipes.
It could be arranged, but is probably not woth the cost. |
