Somebody has applied on our site with a degree from this university. Looks very degree-millish and I'm going to go on the assumption that it's not real.

http://www.almedacollege.org

Especially this part:

Quote:
Q: How long will it take to receive my degree?
A: The assessment process can take anywhere from 48 hours to several years depending on your qualifications and experience and our ability to verify your data. The length of time required for verification is affected by several factors, including the number of additional transcripts, certificates or certifications we need from you and how long it takes you to get them to us. You may also be required to take a few more courses before we can grant you a degree.

Once you are approved for a degree from Almeda, just like at a major college or university, it will take 7 to 10 business days to prepare your degree, student record, and other materials before they are shipped out to you via FedEx.

Q: What do I get with my degree?
A: With every Almeda degree, you receive the following additional products and services:
All Alumni services, including career guidance, online learning resources, and so forth.
A degree, printed on high quality parchment paper, suitable for framing.
A student record based upon our assessment of your qualifications and will include all pertinent courses. No mention of the words "equivalency," "non-traditional," "distance learning," or any similar expression will appear on your academic record or any other record you receive from Almeda University.
Third-party verification for employment purposes. Provided we receive written permission from you, we will supply verification of your degree and date of graduation in writing to any and all inquiries from legitimate third parties. Note: We cannot respond to phone inquiries for security and confidentiality reasons. Verification requests should be faxed to us at (800) 343-4154
A free, beautifully framed copy of your degree ready for display in your home or office. The exact style of framing is subject to change.

I think it's a real place but I don't think it's accredited.

looked at the site, there is no evidence of regional accrediation (ie Southern Assoc of Colleges and Univs) that throws up a major flag for me

based on that I would toss the app.

Yeah, how many legit schools have ads like "need extra cash?" right up on their front page.

Good lord, what kind of job is this loser applying for?

Why it's English teaching of course! This person seems to have had two years at a real university (one that I know, she's from my home town) but seems to have decided on this...um...almeda college to get over to Korea right away. She also has TEFL certification; I don't know why she doesn't just finish up the last two years back home.

Dr. John Bear/FBI Consultant "Almeda is a relatively new arrival on the scene."

Bear is an expert on diploma mills and says Almeda's already one of the biggest — out of at least a thousand out there. They make up to 200 million dollars a year....and are often based in the Caribbean to avoid U-S authorities.

When you make 200 million dollars a year peddling fake degrees, you can afford a pretty fancy website.

Jeez, I'm in the wrong friggin business. Shocked

From their site:

Quote:
The AOAEX is not recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as one of the seven official regional accrediting agencies. This non-recognition may have some implications to include, but not limited to: 1. Almeda University is unable to participate in the Federal Student Loan / Financial Aid program. 2. Almeda University is not authorized to accept the GI Bill. 3. Almeda University is unable to guarantee acceptance of its degree programs in other postsecondary institutions except those accredited by the AOAEX. 4. Corporations are not required to recognize degrees from Almeda University.
