The won broke 1,000! It ended at 1,000.3, but that's good enough for me. I'm feeling like the Fonz. Cool

It has been a LOOOOONG wait. I was in Taejon in '97 when it tanked and the value of my savings dropped by half.

IMO, the day it stays under W1,000 should be made a national holiday.

A buddy of mine mentioned that his school director said "if the Won drops to 900 or below, he will also adjust the salaries of teachers to below 1.7/1.6."

I thought he was just joking around but he was serious!
I can just see it now...teachers agreeing to 1.6 because the Won is strong! And some idots will sign the contracts.

Yeah, its great if you are living on dollars, but we are spending won, and they don't seem so cheap anymore. I feel great that my savings are better, but 1,000 won ain't what it used to be.

Now I am watching my won more closely- that 15,000 won dinner I had out tonight is now $15!

Psychologically, it goes both ways- great for the savings, not so for the spending.

King Sejong sez:

"You ingrates! Only when our currency -- the 10,000 won bill of which incidentally bears my likeness -- benefits you do you have anything complimentary to say about this great nation.

I'm sick of you parasites! I invented hanguel, dammit!

Keep your greasy, french fried fingers off me!"
