~ A good anti-virus program and firewall.
~ Watch what you download and from where.
~ Trust nothing on the net filewise.
~ Never open unknown e-mails.
~ Stop using IE and disable javascript when possible.
Honestly, I have never had a virus, trojan or spyware (that I didn't want) on my system....and it's not luck. |

I got my first virus in about 18 months last night. Trojan Dyfica 2BA.
My own stupid fault. Some bittorrent sites seem to have gone renegade these days as they are asking to load an active X program to load the page properly. I went ahead and permitted the active X. Virus!!
AVG recognised it right away but couldn't fix it.
Adaware could.
Anyway, I use Adaware, Ccleaner and AVG. They work well together considering they're all free from the net. |

If you have Windows XP, you might want to enable its built-in firewall and anti-virus features (don't if you're already running other similar software). I always have a firewall and anti-virus software running. You can easily find good freeware versions if you don't have Windows XP, or want something that offers you more control (have a look at www.download.com or www.tucows.com).
I also use the Korean program Ad Spider to purge my system of Korean adware.
I run AdAware, Spybot, Microsoft Antispyware (depending on my mood). If you think something extra-funky is on your drive, you might want to try finishing off with Antiy Ghostbusters. You'll have to manually uninstall anything Ghostbusters finds in the demo version (if you're also too cheap to buy the full version ), which is why I run another software first. I found that Ghostbusters detects stuff most programs can't. I wonder why those Chinese techies know so much about trojans and viruses. |
