well, when does your f-2 expire? if it won't expire for awhile, you can get a re-entry permit (from local immigration ahead of time or from the airport immigration office), and then you won't be asked to surrender your ARC when you leave.

We gave up our ARC(E-2) at the airport immigration, on the way to Bangkok. Then, we returned a month later, for like 6 hours, to pick up our stuff at left luggage in Incheon. We came back in on a tourist visa and they DID ask for our flight out info.
