I tried avg and a couple of fixes but the virus is still there. One fix said it had to be run in dos mode, not windows but is that possible in win xp?

I think you can find Dos on windows XP.
Looking under programs > accessories > command prompt |

yeah but I understood from this article that you had to be in full on dos mode. anyway thanks for the tip |

Can't you log into Dos, while going into safe mode. I think there is an option on my computer to enter Safe mode with Command Prompt. I haven't need to do that yet, so... I can't tell you 100% with certainty. |

You can't log into DOS on WinXP because it doesn't exist.
It's a pet peeve....
COM...COM...
Anyways, yes, log into Windows Safe mode to do the work. Safe mode with command prompt is different than what you are thinking. This is why terminology is important.
Logging on with command prompt will ask your permission at all load stages, but will land you in Safe mode nonetheless. It may be helpful in that you can avoid all driver/dll loads manually....? |
