I've been doing school-related stuff since Friday evening (after Survivor) and, except a few hours for eating, sleeping and scanning through Dave's while waiting for something to print, I haven't had a break.
I still have one more class to prep for tomorrow (easy prep, fortunately) before I'm finished.
But you know what? It's all good. I like what I do. |

What advice would you give for classes that are very low, used to having grammar lectured at them, and are unfamiliar with activities are that communicative in design. I try to anticipate what problems will come up, but it is like pulling teeth getting them to do a communicative activity in class, and one that is graded to their level. |

Explain the importance of practice (communication). Explain the purpose of the activity. Put them into small groups or pairs. Explain, demonstrate and give them a copy of the instructions. Pretend to by playing with my notes while actually giving them a few minutes to figure out amongst themselves what they are supposed to be doing.
Ready-made English I and II have some good interviewing activites, with a grammar point, that can be used for pair work.
A common comment I get from students a few weeks into a semester is how odd they originally found group work but how much they've grown to like it. |
