|
|
Hello,
We live in Gwangju. We're looking for a dog. We have tried the dog shops and we did find a great dog, but he got very sick (like many others have said) and we returned him. Then there was a whole difficult situation between us (the foreigners) and the dog shop. We got really sick of the blatant discrimination especially when they told us that they wouldn't sell their dogs to any foreigners.
Anyway, we have noticed countless dog sites advertising dogs of all breeds. All seem to be in Korea. We would like to know if anyone has used one of these sites successfully.
Also, does anyone know of a good place to buy dogs (other than downtown) in Gwangju. Is there a classified listing somewhere?
Thanks for all the help. |

Your first mistake was, of course, going to a pet shop to buy a companion animal. People who run pet stores do NOT care about animals. They finance puppy mills and backyard breeders. And I've never seen a single one that didn't rip the pups/kits from their mothers at FAR too young an age.
These are all much better options:
www.koreananimals.org
www.karama.or.kr
www.withanimal.net
If you truly want an animal to love, don't you want to get one from someone who loves animals?
I'd also recommend the breed test at www.akc.org so you can get a dog that matches your lifestyle. You and your dog will be happier for it. |

Thanks for the reply. I know that we made a mistake about that dog shop. We have had several dogs previously in Canada. We know the breed we want. This was a learning experience. I have since discovered that with the health and behavior problems caused by these dog shops keeping unsanitary conditions, in addition to the lack of socialization (caused by premature removal from mother/family), they are to be avoided.
This is why we want to buy a healthy dog from a person who values dogs as much as we do.
Thanks for the information. Although it is in hangeul, we will try to get some information off of it. |

Korea's pet mart is in Dong Dea Mun at the Dongmyo station. Walk south from the station about 2 real blocks then turn right. There are alot of other animals there but there are many dogs. You can get pet things there too. you might have to visit a lot to see whats in the market or you could have them call you.
Do you want an expensive breed? there are dogs that are only sold in private. Do you want one of those? |

Thanks for the info about the pet mart. We are looking for a rarer breed. Actually, we are looking for a bulldog (French or English) or a boston terrier.
We are in Gwangju, so going to Seoul is a little more involved especially if we don't find something we like.
We are currently looking online and have had some luck, but any other information from people is appreciated. |
