(Winners announced 4AM KST July 1st- see page 10 for the winners)

It was discussed here a few months ago and it's been rattling around my brain since. So I'm running it up the flagpole - how about a photo contest of Korea-themed original photos? I know many of us are running around the country with digital and film cameras, and with all of these shutters clicking, there must be a few keepers out there.

Here's what I propose: I can set up a photo album to host this on my server, linked to here. PM me that you'd like to contribute, and I'll create an album for you in your name, and send you the login details for uploading. I'll use the same Coppermine software Pusanweb uses for its contests.

I'm not sure there's such a thing as a prize, and we have no way beyond the honor system to keep anyone from submitting someone elses shots. I'm also not sure yet about a voting mechanism - suggestions are good. I'm making this up as I go.

Anyway, if no one's interested, never mind. But it might be fun to see what pictures others are taking.

_______________
EDIT: The photo gallery is now up, and new photos are appearing by the hour. View them here:
http://220.69.12.84/contest

If you'd like in on this, just PM me with your e-mail address and the password you'd like for the photo gallery system, and I'll PM you back the login details.

Suggestions? Love to hear em. Smile

I like it.

Since we're on the topic of photos, I'd like to plug www.fotolog.net. It's a free photo hosting site where you can put up one image per day. Also, if you pay $5 American (6000 won) a month, you can put up 6 images a day.

I think this is a really great idea. For those of us (like me) who travel a lot around Korea, I have had the opportunity to see stuff some people don't have a chance to. I've got stacks of photos just waiting to be scanned for other to enjoy (other than the wifey and friends) Very Happy !

Haven't thought that far ahead. There needs to be some limit on uploading, simply because I don't have THAT much hard drive space. But only one picture? That's a bit too stingy. More likely it'll be a space quota of 1 or 2mb per user.

I've been thinking of some ground rules. Here are some suggestions -

1. Must be your own picture.

2. No Photoshopping that drastically alters the image (color correction, touchups & cropping are fine - replacing whole skies is not)

3. No friends, family, or pets can appear in the picture.

4. I'll use the same standard Time magazine uses regarding taste and suitability for posting.

5. Uploaded images should carry information in the remarks about where and when the shot was taken. They also should be of decent size - 500 pixels across at least.

I'm grateful for any suggestions/modifications....

I'm definitely in. Although I'm a total photography noob, I'm willing to put my shots up for critique, for the sake of my own improvement.. :)

jae.

OK, Ok. We still don't have the rules all banged out, but I'll start doling out accounts on the photo server now.

Send me a PM telling me you want to participate, along with a password you'd like to use to log in. Also send a valid e-mail address. I'll then PM you back the account details.

If this goes well, good. If not, consider it a test run.

Oh yeah - the photo album server is here.

I was thinking we can let this go through the spring before voting... no big rush.

Also, I'd like to spend a couple of weeks getting people signed up before we start talking more about the contest aspect of it.

Anyway, the photo album is now up, and we have four contributors already:

http://220.69.12.84/contest

Again, all are welcome. Just PM me with your e-mail address and the password you want, and I'll hook you up.

I'd like to suggest that maybe making categories?

For instance some submitted pictures of flowers. I have tons of flower photos, but they don't say much of "Korea" in them, so I opted to submit some other ones.

Also I like the no people/pets rule.

Otherwise I should just submit some pics of my baby, and collect my prize Razz

If you run out of HD space let me know, I got 1.5 gigs or so on my web server.

It'd be cool if people could just post to share their photos too....which makes me think, have people post what they want, then on this board the person who took the photo says which one they want judged over the rest.

I'd suggest if you like/love photography that you get involved.

(Also Lemon - I use photoshop to save as web so my files are smaller, it doesn't save the camera details...how is it other people's camera details are shown?)
