Ok, so I'm looking for a new monitor. Any suggestions on bargain LCDs??
There's too many to choose from on Danawa and I've never heard of most of the manufacturers. Help!!
If anyone has bought some brand they could recommend or could warn me to stay clear of, please let me know.
Cheers.

Well, I know I will get flamed for this from all of the folks with the rather obscure models that are working well, but I would go with a Samsung. They really are leading the field these days and when it come to monitors, both LCD and CRT, they are making fine products. I don't like LG....never have, never will.

If in doubt about a particular model, let Google be your good/bad popularity barmometer. Google the brand name and model of one you are considering and first, see how many English language hits you get. This will mean reviews in English of the product and support resources if something goes south. The second reason to Google is just for outright popularity. I say English only because I assume that is the language you will want support in...I would never insinuate that Koreans would support a bum product simply on the basis that it was from Korea.

No one wants to be just another face in the crowd except, in the least circumstance, a manufacturer. If the reviews and comments on the net are not dissing the product, this would be an acceptable thing. It means they are at least keeping par with the course. So, if the page hits are high and the pages listed have good to average things to say, then go for it.

Warranty is also a priority. "Lennie's Monitors" may be lacking....

Anyways, the Google page-hit thing alone is quite telling. A few minutes further, and one can quickly discern if its good or bad stuff. This can of course be unfair, as many of the well-made but more obscure models may be left out as they are not for export and thus would have no English reviews.

This is enough for me not to buy that brand anyways. Call me paranoid...
