I have come to the conclusion that yeap its true..
HONGDAE does really suck!!
the clubs there are nothing for a city like seoul!!
over priced! and just plain not cool!
they draw on the desperation of people looking for a night out.
but they dont deliver!

they dont put the money back into the clubs! refurbish, open better newer clubs, actually make a bar instead of a corner with some bottles on the self! sure hongdae has its imagine! and I have been going there to drink
for 6 years now! its hongdae! but for a city like seoul and the amount of money around. I feel the clubs or bars around that area could be better!
I dont know where you are from BB maybe you're from a small country town where the best bar is a salon so you probably think seoul, korea, hongdae is the best in the world! but for others who have traveled and have lived, or do live in big cities.. seoul, hongdae is a joke for what it is!

NB!! the best club in KOREA????? PPLEEEAAASSEEEEE!!!
M2!! the biggest, best dance club in KOREA!!!! PPLLLEEEAAASSEEE!
A JOKE!!!

Haven't been there in ages and don't have a regular hangout there, though I do try to go to Sogno for pasta or something like that. I just find it funny how, just one year ago, I used to view Itaewon as a food stop on the way to Hongdae and wouldn't be caught dead around the area, but now that I've got a small handful of decent bars to go to there, I'm actually more willing to go there than to Hongdae.

Them direct buses from Bundang to Hannam help, too.

Yuck. Hongdae ain't for this chick. It reminds me of trying to get into clubs when I was like 18 and trying to sneak into these places that, at the time were 'so cool'.

Im well well well over it by now. Im not 18 anymore. There are better places to spend my time than with a bunch of wannabe's. Cool

Obviously everyone knows that there is a difference between a Korean style night club and a western one. Ever wonder why at the Korean style night club they force you to purchase all your booze and the food at one time and in very large amounts?Wink

When you go to a western style night club in Korea you never see long lines of Koreans (who are the majority of people there) standing in line to get a drink. Besides the couple of major foreigner watering holes in Itaewon, when was the last time you saw a group of people ordering a round of 15 tequila shots (I have only seen this at Seoul Pub and they were all westerners)?

Have you ever seen a group of Koreans ordering a round of 10 tequila shots? Nope, it just does not even compare to back home.

Back home, it is a given that each person in your group of going out buddies will buy a round of shots at least one time in the night. I cannot go through the night with out doing at least five shots of Jagear.

Thus, you do not have the big bars (physical place to purchase drinks) in the night clubs in Hongdae. The justification is just not there. They give more room to the dance floor.

With the high rent at these places and the low sales of drinks (compared to back home) I really do not know how they survive.

This might end up on page 2 before we get a list of any bar names that posters frequent when they go to HongDae.

I was at M2 saturday night, aside from the pisspoor attitude of the bouncers, not being allowed into the upstairs area, paying 20 000 to just walk into the place, korean chicks who wouldnt give me the time of day, the complete lack of drug dealers...yeah...what a club...as much of a pit as it is i quite like stompers, it takes more than a couple of drunken gi's to scare me off.

Hodge Podge was my favorite when I lived in Shinchon in 2000-01. Haven't been back in quite awhile. Seems like all the prices (IN THAT STREET) are going sky-high for cover charges.

Recently I've been expanding my horizons and found a couple good damn good non-disco bars with some damn cheap beer! (and not GOLD BAR - which sucks!)
