today i took a taxi but the first taxi wasn't going my way so he got out and asked another taxi if he would take me (much better than the grunts i usually get). the second dude was awesome. he was polite and chatted with me in my very broken korean and it was nice. i spend too much time being negative here so i'm sharing this nice experience. yay!

anyone else have something nice to share?

When I first moved here I would stop at this dollar store almost every day and pick up little things for my place. They got to know and maybe expect the daily blond white guy visit. I spend a lot of money there. Maybe 200,000 won in a couple months. One day they gave me two 5kg bags of laundry detergent. "Free sample" was the english they could muster. It was a heck of a walk back but it lasted me nearly a year. That stuff ain't cheap.

I've been here on and off for ten years and I've never had a negative taxi experience.

then you are lucky. i've had tons of *really* bad ones. from people taking me the "tourist" way, to people asking me about my boyfriend's *beep* size, to being propositioned for sex, to being yelled at for no reason. i've had it all. this guy was super nice though.

I've had some really nasty taxi rides, but also a few nice ones. My first week, a cabbie spent the whole ride teaching me Korean.

two weeks ago I left my phone in the back of a cab- the guy used my last-dialled number to speak to a girl in the same bar as me, and then arranged to drive back to where he'd dropped me off so I could get the phone back.

Think this would happen in NYC? London? Tokyo? etc..

Me neither.
