Firstly, does anyone have a good link for port mapping, I'm currently trying to track down port 4129, I had to turn off my firewall yesterday for a few hours and I think I may have picked up an unwanted guest. It may be ssh from what I can gather... the fact that someone is trying to connect to my computer remotely over an encrypted channel concerns me, to put it mildly
plus, what is your proceedure for tracking down trojans on your computer ??
and generally just cleaning it out, spyware etc... I'm on a win2000 computer and am running an apache 1.3 web server.
do you run an anti-virus (AV) program ? what's the best free one out there for windoze ?? |

If you want to check the your computer's security, go to shields up. This will tell you how well your firewall is operating.
For more information on AV, firewall and spyware/adware/malware programs, go to majorgeeks.com where they have information and links to anything security related that you would ever need for your computer. |

I usually surf on my Mac and I can't remember the last time a site didn't show up on my browser. Safari works fine and I don't have to worry about accidentally installing malware.
The best reason to go with a PC is flexibility for unusual computer projects that may need special software. For a graphics specialist or your typical surfer/word processing user, Macs are worth the little extra money because of their peace of mind. Well, another reason to choose a PC is personal history-- if you know your way around a PC, it might not be worth the effort to learn your way around a Mac. |

| I have Trend software and I pay a subscrition. I don't read everything they say in the letters but its pretty interesting. |

Thanks for the shields up tip jaz blanc,  they had a cool link on their too for putting a service name to that port number ...

I'm not off to buy a mac unfortnately, although I've heard that they are the only platform for design work, but difficult for everything else ... repair etc... |
