Has anyone had any experience putting Linux on to a system where XP is embedded? I am sick of this Korean XP and I'm not going to put a burnt copy of XP on it, for the sake of English.

I don't like XP at all and want to give Linux a go. Any comments or suggestions?

Say goodbye to computing as you know it.

Have fun. Laughing

Not at all. If you want to try something new, go for it. If you are expecting the Windows ease of use (and it is easy), then you will be in for a surprise.

I just don't think Linux in its current state, both as software and politics, is a viable alternative to Windows. A geek toy, a server, or something to install when there is no alternative, like on your modded XBOX or whatever..

Try a dual boot of Linux and Windows before you commit, just to try it.

Create a partition for it and install it.

Hum. Linux has a steeper learning curve, but once you know your way around it, it's much easier to keep running healthily than Windows.

Your main concern should be whether the software you run now will continue to run if you switch. Games are the worst for this.

Then you need to pick a distro. They range from the almost-Windows (e.g. Lindows) to the really rather techie (e.g. Slackware).

Personally I'd go SuSE or maybe RedHat.

You could also try booting one of the linux-from-a-cd distros to have a play - it won't touch your hard disk at all.
