I guess I'm missing something big time! Gesh...it's an hour from seoul for one thing! And it's expensive toll fee wise for a round trip drive. Sure...the hotels have busses that charge around 10,000 for a ride to Incheon...still...the world's 2nd best?!?!?!
I'll bet koreans will be crooning all over the country about this!

(CNN) -- When it comes to the airport experience, terminals in Asia are a cut above the rest, according to a recent independent survey of air passengers.

Hong Kong International Airport was named the world's best, second favorite was Seoul's Incheon and Singapore's Changi airport was placed third.

Kuala Lumpur's international airports came in fourth, while the Middle East hub of Dubai was ranked fifth.

Airports Council International (ACI) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) jointly conducted the satisfaction survey. The research was conducted during 2004, covering 40 major global airports and 65,000 interviews.

It doesn't have the best location but that isn't so unusual for international airports. Other than that it 's a very nice airport--the spacious check in facilities reminds me a lot of Hong Kong International Airport.

I think Chang-i is better. It's like a little shopping mall and they have (or at least they had -- not sure if they still do) free tours for people with a few hours to kill between flights.

I'm guessing that it was either because of the Tim Hortons there being open 24/7, or because it's so small you can never get lost.

Yeah, BW: How can the Halifax Airport even leave an impression on someone? It's so small.

I give the Koreans credit for doing this one right, they do though need more security screeners but thats it and once they get the rail link done it will be pretty close to perfect

Hope the new Bangkok airport is like this one

I like Incheon's airport better than HK's, the layout is simpler......

But ya, the Koreans won't be too pleased to hear this... Very Happy

Hong Kong airport rocks. It's cool how you can check your luggage in at the train station before you arrive at the airport

You can check your luggage in first at the City Terminal next to Coex, albeit only for a certain number of airlines. Still, that's pretty handy.

I like Incheon even if it is a bit too big sometimes.. but Hong Kong is even bigger and I always have to allow 45 minutes to get from departure to my actual gate. Pain in the backside, I say!

I have no complaints about Incheon Airport. It has a nice, simple layout, it's clean and well-organised.

And the bus runs pretty close to my house. Very easy to get there and back.

Now see, it's this kind of attitude that I think is incredibly lame. I posted up a story a while ago about Incheon being voted number 1 airport in the world in a different survey.
link
The reaction then was similar, but included "Oh I bet loads of netizens rigged the vote".

Well now this one comes out and it's done by the proper official guys, IATA and ACI- no questioning the source, so instead we get:
No way man! It's crap! And I bet the koreans will be really arrogant about this too!

To look at your criticisms
It takes a while to get to the airport, yes, maybe 40 minutes from Hapjeong, 2 hours if you're coming from East Gangnam. But how long does it take to get from Manhattan to JFK? Tokyo to Narita? Heathrow to London?
Newsflash: You can't build a major international airport in the middle of a major city.

They're building a railway at the moment, but these things take time and money- it's a fact of life.

The main airport bus routes (check here- the ones with number 600, 601 etc) cost around 7,000 won- even if you are travelling on a two hour journey. Reasonable?
Try getting to/from any of the airports I just mentioned for that price, you can't- try getting to/from for twice, three times that price- I'd be surprised if it was possible.

Koreans 'crooning' all over the country? Well when the last survey came out it was mentioned in passing to me by one Korean guy, a guy who like me, works at Incheon airport.
Did you even hear about the last survey from anyone? I'll give you a hint it was about 2 months ago, and you didn't even notice.
