More Young Koreans Become Obese Rapidly

A growing number of Koreans in their 20s and 30s are overweight.
According to a joint research study released Monday by the National Health Insurance Corporation and the Korean Society for the Study of Obesity, 32.3 percent of people in their 20s were obese in 2000.
The percentage surged from 8.1 percent in 1992. The rate of obesity for people in their 30s doubled to 35.9 percent from 18.8 percent in 1992.
On the other hand, the rate of obesity for those in their 40s and 50s stood at 37.8 percent and 36.6 percent, up from 25.2 percent and 26.1 percent, respectively. Balh blah blah ...

So, where are they all? Apart from the occasional plump ajuma, there are very few fat people in Korea. They must have a different idea of 'fat'. And if 30% are fat, where does that put fatties in the West - a different species perhaps ... |

I would attribute it to the fact that younger people are visiting fast food places more frequently, and since fast food places are a more recent phenomenon....the younger people will obviously be more affected.
Also, the younger people are more apt to sit and play computer games for longer periods of time.
Old folks are out hiking, farming, and pushin' folks around....  |
