For any of you who have been allowed to decorate a classroom...how did you go about doing it?

I don't want to spend much of my own money to do it(preferably not spending a dime)....but I want to communicate a fun atmosphere...make them somewhat excited to be there....BTW....these are high schoolers...

Also, I don't have access to a colour printer.... Crying or Very sad

If you come up with an idea you can tell your students to bring colored paper to class and make up signs and posters as a project.

I did it all the time last semester. Luckily this semester my new co-teacher has gone nuts buying supplies for my class. I now have luxuries like a hole punch, scissors, pencil crayons, colored paper and tons of other little office supplies that I didnt have last year.

I helped decorate my friends classroom. We used old magazines to make collages of english. just cool images and then we added some quotes. Also used some print outs and a couple of flags around. If I were you I'd get in touch with the american culture center or the british coucnil. They are bound to have free stuff to decorate your walls with.

You can bring in wrappers and packets and boxes from your Western food products...

I am in the process of decorating the "English Zone" here at my high school. Luckily I can draw from the budget of the English department, so no money is coming out of my own pocket.

I've ordered up some laminated maps of America (thats the English speaking country the kids are interested in) and the world, as well as some laminated posters of movie and pop stars and a few pics of everyday life in America.

And I am having my brother (the only member of my family that still lives in America) send me a box of American magazines (cars, motorcycles, girls magazines, etc). I will then have the students create collages out of them to put on the walls.

Going to leave some space blank for future student projects. Been thinking of having the students do group projects on different English speaking countries, have them write short reports and create flags.
