I wanted to know what life would be like for a 19 yr old living and working in South Korea. Ill be doing a Celta course soon and am having a hard time trying do decide which asian country i should go to. My parents want me to go to China rather than Korea as they think Korea's unstable so im at a total loss of which country i should choose.
Please, for those who have taught or are still teaching in either Korea or China tell me what its like and what you think would be the best thing for me to do. |

Uh, you need a bachelor's degree to legally teach in Korea. |

Korea is as stable as anywhere else, and is one of the safest places I know of to live.
However, as Hater Depot said, you have to have a 4-year degree to teach English in Korea. So, that pretty much makes the decision for you. |

19 = no degree wich in turn means illegally teaching which in turn means you might get busted and thrown out of the country.
Thanks for playing. |

Bachelor's degree, yes. 4-year degree, no. |

That's pretty funny! |

My parents were the same. Its mere ignorance. Im in Korea and loving it - the more I tell my parents about the country the better they feel. Im completely at ease, but I think they will always think Korea is unstable.
But you do need a degree to get a working visa, and at 19 Im guessing you dont have one. Its not a requirement for China. |

CELTA is a god course..and the skills you learn with it would be entirely wasted on korea unless you worked teaching adults or perhaps university students.
Celta is designed for teaching willing adults who want to learn English, not kids who would rather be playing outside. in any case..if you just want a teaching job here, celta is totally uneccesary, and is not even recognised here....
As for h"How is life in korea?"- its good, but only after a while. It takes time to grow on you. i think most newbies don't enjoy it, only people who've been here a while...just my impression. |
